The Egg Thing is Creeping Me Out

As I mentioned before, I really like eggs. So much, I decided to just give in and declare eggs a part of my diet for now. But I am wondering if I should change my mind again. Not because I don't like them, but because I really, really like them. Maybe a bit too much.

I am not kidding, I fantasize about eating eggs these days. I am averaging 2 per day, but yesterday I ate 3. I make one in the morning, and then I have to make another one, because I am just not satisfied. When I am hungry, I start thinking about how good those eggs are, and I can even feel the texture in my mouth, along with the taste. This does not seem right to me.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that people often crave foods that are actually bad for them, but I am too lazy right now to go search for the link. I mean, foods that you are allergic to, not just the generic bad stuff we all crave, like candy and potato chips. It is starting to make me wonder about these eggs, because it seems like such a weird thing to crave all the time. But, I don't want to give them up! I love them!

See what I mean? It's kind of creepy.

hmmmm.... I think I see what you mean. Yeah, a little weird, but hey, probably not harmful (except in the cholesterol-from-eggs-and-the-way-they-treat-chickens) but I do know what you're saying. I used to obsess - and I mean OBSESS about cheesecake.

I've always read that real cravings (and yeah, not chocolate and cookie cravings but real cravings) were because something was lacking from your diet. I've definitely noticed this in my own diet. I have also craved protein before (kind of like your egg craving) and have noticed this comes at a time when I haven't been careful about eating good sources of protein. So maybe this is just your body asking you to eat protein. Makes sense, no?

Tofu mom, I do try to get cage-free eggs. I miss the local farmer's market, where I would get super fresh eggs and I trusted that they were totally cage-free, but I am hoping that the ones I get at Trader Joe's really are cruelty-free.

Becky, I thought it was a craving for protein at first, too, but I really do get protein. It doesn't matter what I eat, I crave the eggs, even if I am making sure to get protein all day long. I don't know, it's not too bad in the scheme of things, it's just a little weird, you know?

Just a thought - but have you checked out the Compassionate Cooks www.compassionatecooks.com podcast http://feeds.feedburner.com/VegetarianFoodForThought? You don't have to have an ipod to listen. Just listen online. I highly recommend it. She's got episodes on "Life after Cheese," eggs, and so much more. I think there are more than 60 episodes now, and it's helped me tremendously.
